  2.        How to get to IRC
  3.  
  4.        Clients and servers for IRC are  available via anonymous FTP from
  5.        cs.bu.edu. A few sites offer public access to IRC via Telnet. Two
  6.        such  sites are  wbrt.wb.psu.edu and  irc.demon.co.uk.   At  both
  7.        sites, you should log in as irc.

  9.        The many server hosts of Internet  Relay Chat throughout the net-
  10.        work are  connected via a  tree structure.   The  various servers
  11.        relay control and message data  among themselves to advertise the
  12.        existence of other  servers,  users,  and the  channels and other
  13.        resources being occupied by those users.

  15.        Fundamental to the operation of IRC  is the concept of a channel.
  16.        All users are on a channel while inside IRC.   You enter the null
  17.        channel first.   You  cannot send any messages until  you enter a
  18.        chatting channel,  unless you have  set up a private conversation
  19.        in some way.  The number of channels is essentially unlimited.
